NWTC launches aviation program aiming to address pilot shortage

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) and Aviate Flight School have launched the region’s first Professional Aeronautics Certification, a commercial aviation career-pathway program, to help address a growing shortage of pilots. The non-degree program combines classroom instruction, simulator training, and flight lessons, providing a direct pathway into aviation careers for both traditional students and career changers. Officials say mandatory pilot retirements are expected to create significant demand over the next decade, making workforce development in aviation increasingly important. The program begins in fall 2026, requires about 20 hours of commitment per week, and could eventually train up to 80 new pilots annually in northeast Wisconsin.
